This month Greg and Karen are featuring movies involving wolves. For our first entry, Karen has selected the Universal film “The Wolf Man”, from 1941. Greg and Karen discuss the film while drinking a Tequila Moonrise which Karen found in her True Blood Cookbook. We hope that you enjoy it.
Tequila Moonrise Recipe
• 1 1/2 oz tequila
• 1 1/2 oz Ruby Mixer (recipe below)
• 3/4 oz grenadine
• Orange slice and maraschino cherry for garnish
Instructions:
- Pour the tequila in a highball glass with ice and top with the Ruby Mixer
- Add the grenadine by tilting the glass and pouring it down the side of the glass by flipping the bottle vertically very quickly
- Garnish with the orange slice and cherry
Ruby Mixer Recipe
• 4 oz carbonated orange soda (such as Orangina or San Pellegrino Aranciata)
• 1 1/2 oz grenadine
• 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Instructions:
- Combine the orange soda, grenadine, and lemon juice in a pitcher
- Stir to blend before using
A Brief Synopsis: Lon Chaney Jr. stars in this horror masterpiece, featuring elaborate settings and a chilling score about a man who is attacked by a werewolf and then becomes one himself at each full moon.
Some of the topics discussed include:
- Werewolf history – When did the first werewolf appear? Where did it come from?
- How to become a werewolf – What are the ways to make yourself, or someone else a werewolf?
- Encyclopedias – What where these heavy bound books?
- New Year’s resolutions – Did Greg or Karen make any New Year’s resolutions?
- Wolf month – Why dedicate January to movies with wolves? (hint…see below)
- Wolf moon – Why is the full moon in January called the “wolf moon”?
- True Blood – Karen was a big fan of this show, and apparently it had it’s own cookbook.
- Elvis – Greg probably couldn’t make a living as an Elvis impersonator.
- A Tale of Two Cities – A favorite of both Greg and Karen.
Our rating of the film:
This movie was OK. It took us 3 cocktails to get through it.
