Countess Dracula – SSP084

Countess Dracula

Celebrating what would have been Ingrid Pitt’s 85th birthday on November 21st, Greg has chosen the 1971 Hammer film “Countess Dracula” for our viewing pleasure this week. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy a “Vampire” cocktail. The recipe that Greg found on cocktailbuilder.com is below.

Vampire Cocktail Recipe

• 1 oz cranberry juice
• 1 oz raspberry liqueur
• 1 oz vodka

Instructions:

  1. Combine ingredients in a shaker over ice.
  2. Serve as shots in an old-fashioned glass.

A Brief Synopsis: When Countess Elizabeth Bathory discovers that bathing in the blood of virgin girls will keep her eternally young and beautiful, she devises a master plan. She kidnaps her daughter, Ilona, and takes over her persona. Then she goes to bed with a handsome young man, not caring about the mounting jealousy of her servant and lover, Capt. Dobi. But Bathory’s plan goes awry when she runs out of blood and begins to change back into her former self.

Some of the topics discussed and highlights of this episode include:

  • Karen teaches us all about Countess Elizabeth Bathory.
  • We learn that the furry hat worn by a member of the Hungarian military is called a “busby”.
  • Just as we had in “The Vampire Lovers”, there is a lot of discussion about Ingrid Pitt’s age.
  • Did you know that Ingrid Pitt was a Holocaust survivor?

Our rating of the film:
