As the podcast begins a new year, Karen has selected the 1936 Universal film “Dracula’s Daughter” for our viewing pleasure this week. Join Greg and Karen as they discuss the film while they enjoy an “Excellent Eyelashes” cocktail. The recipe that Karen found on cocktailbuilder.com is below.
Excellent Eyelashes Cocktail Recipe
• 1 1/2 oz bourbon
• 1/2 oz of maraschino liqueur
• 1/2 oz of ginger liqueur
• 1/2 oz of lime juice
• 2 dashes of bitters
• 1 oz of ginger beer
Instructions:
- Combine spirits, lime juice, and bitters in mixing glass.
- Stir with ice, and double-strain into rocks glass over more ice.
- Finish with ginger beer.
A Brief Synopsis: Although Count Dracula was destroyed by Van Helsing, who is now being tried for his murder, Dracula’s daughter, the Countess Marya Zaleska, is still alive — and her father’s death has brought her no closer to eradicating her vampiric thirst for blood. When attempts to free herself of the disease fail, she turns to psychiatrist Dr. Garth for assistance, but soon finds herself struggling with the desire to make him one of the undead as well.
Some of the topics discussed and highlights of this episode include:
- Hypnotism – Can you be hypnotized?
- The 1933 Alvis Speed 20 – The second time this car is featured in one of our films.
- Bram Stokers Dracula – This story originated from a chapter that was not included in the final version of the novel.
- Volume of Blood in the Human Body – Again our hosts discuss the volume of blood in the human body, and how much you need to lose to “bleed out”.
- Eyelashes – Eyelashes are debated.
- Lesbian Overtones? – Maybe…maybe not.
Our rating of the film:
This movie was so bad that it took us 4 cocktails to get through it.
