That film karen. I don't know something to do with burning man. What was yes. The annual burning man celebration that happens in the united states which really isn't related to this film at all. It happens on august twenty second which is just a few days after this episode comes out thing is a virtual celebration too but we are in the middle of a pandemic. Oh it's virtual now yes. Well that's gonna take a lot of fun out of it. I suppose if it's the burning man that i know from california right after watching this film it would have been better to do like may i. Yeah same yes belt gotta do. I really wanted to see it. So maybe i rushed in a bit. I wonder why looking for an excuse. I don't know but it is not quite what i expected. I'll tell you that it was not what i expected. That's for sure. It's another one that i have never seen. So yeah me either but i wanted to say i'd heard good things. It got good reviews. it's kind of a classic in its own way. Would you like to hear a synopsis. Drink whatever you wanna do get your. Let's go with the synopsis first. And then we'll do the drink. It says that the wife of the producer of the equalizer saw this film and convinced her husband to cast him as the original equalizer. Tv show nice is one of those shows. I never missed. I never saw it that magnum. Well yeah everybody watched magnum for the shorts alone so mustache sarah edward woodward i keep calling him edward woodward the whole time. I'm not even sure what his name is. This movie sergeant howie so he lands well before he does that. He's flying the plane and he whips out the paper map. Yeah to see where he's going. Oh you sound before gate. Oh you young people out there. There used to be these things called maps that were all folded up and you had to unfold them and follow all the highways and byways and figure out how to get somewhere. I just thought that was funny. He whips it out. And he's looking to see charts or whatever he's looking at so he lands at some. I guess it's the isle of summer summer. I'll summarize yes. I guess yeah. He lands at the harbourmaster house. There the yells at men standing. There dissent him dinghy so he can get out the sea plane and come to shore. Yeah the guy asks if he's lost his bearings they don't want their all. The locals are staring most. They don't have many visitors. Gonna i'm guessing not so the men at the harbor master building refuse saying that it's private property that he can't come ashore and he tells hit them that there has been a complaint about a missing child and that makes it a police matter private property or not. He's coming yeah. He says he's the police. Send the damn dinghy. Yeah so. They send a dinghy out there to get him. He comes ashore and he shows the man Picture of a girl named rohan but none of them recognizer so the boat that they go out to get him in has the evil eye on it. yes it does. and that's just a symbol of spiritual protection. Edward goes to eat his dinner and he notices that all the fruits and vegetables appeared to be from can that are on his plate and he mentioned the will he finds that odd. Yeah he's disappointed and dinner and then he asked for an apple willow ask. I'd be wondering what did want to have afterwards seductively kinda right Was that your seductively. Needs a little work on it. Try to work on it before she starts singing dancing. Yeah he asked where all the apples are and she says they must have been exported. It's it's they're rowdy down there in the pub out. remember that. But i'll take your word and the sergeant is agitated. This is just all not his gig. He is not happy about any of this stuff so he goes up to his room gets ready forbid he kneels at his bed and says his prayers and we cut back and forth to scenes of him. Giving and taking holy communion correct. Yeah he lays. That's what i've heard it is. He's thinking of mass and he must be a reader because he's not a priest but he's breeding bass yuccas. There's was just communion. You can't have communion without mass. Yes yes you can care. Only if you're like no keys reading. He's doing readings at the pote at the podium. Yes saying this is my body or whatever right now as you say when you're giving holy communion what he's reading. Yes but he podium catholic. It looked pretty catholic but hard to say show coming to. The priest look looked catholic. But i don't know. I've not been to many other masses but it had the the kind of structure of a catholic mass. Maybe but he's a reader. You have readings and all that he's not all i'm saying is he's not a priest. He can't perform the blessing of the sacrament. He's just thinking about communion which means he can't conduct communion so means he can't change the bread into the body of christ. He's not a priest who can't change the wine into the blood and the anyway he's catholic so we should move on. Because i don't understand anything you're saying. He's praying thinking of mass. He's on his knees praying and it seems like someone's outside his room and then there's all the sudden there's call music in the pub it. You're very gallant. Man sergeant semi cut to the boys dancing around the maypole. Yeah i when i saw it. I thought are those. All boys may are very seventies looking and they're singing song that seems to be about fertility and premarital x. then we cut to see the girls from the town are all in a classroom learning about the maypole as well i. They're pounding to the beat. Yes of the boys singing then. The teacher asks daisy. What does the may pole represent. Daisy doesn't know but every other girl in there does raise their hands and what is it. It's a phallic symbol the image of a penis it is. That's what the teacher says what she tells them. He sees a couple crates of Rotten apples on top of a tomb. He angrily knocks them off. Any fashions across from a couple of pieces of wood and places is upon the tomb next. We see a man using a very old fashioned push mower mowing the grass in the cemetery is. He's the caretaker groundskeeper yup. Yeah in edward asked him about the trees seems to be a tree playing on every gravesite. There's one gray of this not marked with a headstone right. Yeah he asked who. Who's buried here. Well i ask. What kind of tree it is. Oh that's true. And he says it's a zurich free colder rowing. I don't know is there. I don't know because that's what he said wouldn't hold on. And it is a tree or shrub also known as a mountain ash throughout the cool temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. So it is a tree. Go one thing i learned. Then he tells. Edward deputies rohan morrison's grave. Yeah the sergeant asks who is buried under the tree. And he says rowen morrison dead for six or seven months they're just late with the headstone. So what's the deal with the flesh. The tree i couldn't tell what he said. I rewound it multiple times. So the sergeant. There's a piece that almost looks like a ribbon but at the same time looks like flesh and he says is it her skin and the groundskeeper says no. It's an what i wrote. There's a copy of the photo or if he has the negative on l. Keep that crap. I don't keep known copy pictures. Edward shows photographer photo of rohan. He doesn't recognizer correct. Nobody recognizes this girl except for a little girl. Now at the girl at the registrar of births deaths and marriages.

She was the first one said. Oh yeah. I don't know anything about her. But that's her so next. We see girls in what appears to be like a peach orchard some kinda orchard flowering trees. Yeah because the starters. I dunno sergeants taken a horse taxi. I might it's probably apple trees apple trees and they're all wearing sheer dresses. Are they all pregnant. they're pregnant just one just on the heap show in one next week. A bunch of naked women sitting in a circle around a fire in stone stone hedge looking place right stonehenge rip off. Yeah i said they dance. And i said it must be some fertility. Dance or something. Yeah they're dancing in a circle and leaping over the fire in the middle of the fire and we see a pregnant woman right machine address then some more trivia according to the x. Ray most of the girls in the scene are actually wearing flesh colored body stockings because it was filmed in october november. So it was a little chilly. Yeah they i think you can see in one shot that they're covering up. I thought they were just covering certain parts of them. But i guess it's the mahdi stocking. Yeah but i guess they're covering for warmth and they're singing about taking a baby inside of you yes so. Edward is going to visit lord some oil. That's where he's going when he sees this So he arrives there. So i kind. Christopher leave now on christopher lee kind of pops up from behind the chair kind of startles. Edward is edward watching. These girls dance around while in the houses. Fancy oh yeah. He's the lord of the isle. He owns it. He owns the whole island. And yeah the sergeants watching the girls out the window and did you write anything about what christopher says the dance is all about because he says there naked and flee says well of course they are they would. They were wearing clothes jumping over the fire. They make themselves on fire right. That would be dangerous about the fire. Had some fertility thing they wanted to try and get pregnant by the gods or some shit. Yeah but that's a little later. But they're jumping over the planes to make themselves fruitful. Yes and they want to be impregnated by the gods certain gods and then the sergeants upset by that but then christopher lee says moore. Isn't that how jesus was born. Does he says. I believe he was a virgin birth from a ghost so they're talking religion and they do talk about rohan and the sergeant wants to exhume body. Christopher says well if you believe there was foul play and you must right right gives them permission and then christopher lee starts explaining the islands customs to edward right at the old gods are alive and edward what wants to know but what about the true god and christopher release says he had his chance right. A chance and the sergeants offended. i couldn't figure out watching this thing. If this was like a commentary on christianity or commentary on religion in general just seem not to support any of these religions. You know nobody's right here but it was interesting to watch the sergeant come over from a place where he's right about everything from a christian nation and you know he's very confident in everything and he comes over and he's dealing with people who don't put faith in anything he saying. None of that means anything to them so he must feel a little off center everywhere. He looks at some sort of a front to his christianity. Everywhere if you just walk out the door. There's an orgy in the grass. And then he walks a few more steps than there. Some woman straddling a grave. And then you know. Being taught in the schools is the phallic sam. I mean it's got to be an assault on his core believes you know he's got a feel a little off center this whole time off centered. Nfl yes angry. I would say yeah which is less how he acts right. He say the acting in this. I think it's very good but we'll talk about but he's feels that he's right. He's very arrogant in his christianity. Well isn't everyone arrogant in their beliefs. In this film. I think true. But he's the outsider so he seemed as he is to be the one who is being unreasonable and arrogant. because he's the one who disagrees. Yes but christopher lee goes to talk about how his grandfather bought the island and changed everything to develop a new strain of fruit trees that would work in scotland climate and then we see palm trees.

I know i did see paul trees. They did something to make it more tropical. I don't know a way to grow the fruits and things because at one point. The sergeant says it's unnatural. The crops are gonna fail. Yeah so they've done something to make it a good place to grow certain types of fruit tops up about the warm tropical air coming off the coast for some reason. I don't know. The orders the harbor master to come back asif anyone's been messing with a plane in the harbor master says that no unto his knowledge has been near it. Yeah when he did pull into the harbour. I did he. He took out this tiny little anchor. Did you notice that when i arrived. It's a tiny little thing and threw it out. I just thought that was kind of funny. Yep and it stayed right where it was The master tells edward that one of his men could row him back to the mainland. But he wouldn't be able to return for a week so it take that long right to get there and back then edwards says he will find rowan himself next. They have the high ground yes. Christopher lee explains about sacrifices to edward and how animals are good but don't always work and a child is better but the most effective of all is a certain type of adult. And of course edward wants to know what type what do you mean. What type of adult. Then they say a man who would come of his own free will each of the different peoples have line in s right And the next one says a man who has come with the power of a king and the next one says a man who represents the law in the next one says a man who had come here as a virgin then the next one says a man who has come here has a full so edward begins to try to walk away like that's going to happen and christopher lee also mentioned that this was their first crop failure ever best. You know just so. That's why they're doing desperate things here but yeah he thinks he can just walk away at this point. And he tells edward that they've controlled his every move. Since he was contacted they contacted him. Basically brought him brought him to the island. He says the they've controlled his every thought and move the whole time. He's there. yeah. So that's why. I think they wanted him to wake up. And knock over the the candle i guess but they could have just carried them out if he was immobile. I mean if the hand of glory actually works now. I guess i don't know so his he tries to walk away. They tell them they grab him and he is again told that he is a fool then they prepare him for the sacrifice so they kind of disrobe him and start putting all these paints and shit on him and put him in this sacrificial. Yeah the lovely ladies rub their blonde hair on his face. They do. They wash his hands. They finger pain is body and put him in a white robe and he goes on and on about how he believes in life eternal as promised by his lower jesus christ right christopher leases that is good for we shall give you a martyr's death and this is where christopher lee's hair starts to get wind blown in every time every shot from now on his hair gets crazier and crazier is not wearing the wig anymore. At least he's not looking like being what's his name from the whole. He looked like the girl that crawls out of the tv. What is that same diff. But he's got it's not really long hair that he has but it loves out like it's nobody's business. He's he's got poofy hair. So edward tries to convince the townspeople that they are about to commit you. Killing me won't bring back your apples. No he tries to tell them. There is no sun. 'cause killing him's not gonna work but christopher says he believes it will right and he says that they will not fail. The king virgin fool will be sacrificed so they take edward to the top of the hill. He crowd surfs. And then they marched us. Yeah where there is a large wicker man. That's pretty impressive. That thing it was terrifying. I don't think he struggled near enough.

Edward starts trying to preach to them right. i think he's is he reciting scripture. I don't know if he is not. But i think he is. Sounds like it could be. Christopher lee the goddesses to accept the sacrifice and i have the sergeant preaches jesus yes and then they liked the wicker man ablaze as the sun goes down and they all begin singing a happy song weird and the animals start going nuts inside and they're all swaying and singing and they say no animals were harmed good in the filming of this but the goat did pee on edward woodward because it was scared. Well yeah because it was above him so then edwards sings a him And then start praying. The wicker man is ablaze and collapses upon its own way revealing the sun setting the end house like what what is happening here. Y'all that's what happened. I know first of all. he's dead. New sacrificed yeah which you know. I didn't expect. I thought he would get away. And then second did the crops fail or did they not fail the next year. Don't set the setup for the sequel. what's happening. I don't know what you should be happy. There could have been a sequel. They set it up for sequel. I guess 'cause i would like to see if they come after lord summerell because the crops still failed. I doubt it repeat basks in the glory of crop success. Who's the first year they had a bad year. You know his hair is impressive. Sony thing you were pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed this movie. I think the acting was good. I think the twist was good. You know where you think. That he's found her and then she double crosses him. I thought that was good. Near the cast was very good. In besides the music chase scene there that one out of place so out of place they could have chosen something so much better. Any instrumental would have been better than that. I think and i think i was a little disappointed in his lack of trying to get away when they were gonna put him in the wicker man. I mean i know it's a movie and he's scripted. but he almost calmly goes in it. He didn't put much of a fight. But i guess that's what strong faith does for you. I guess but yeah. That's thank my chances with the rocky cliffs personally well or at least fight. It almost looked like you could pry it apart. It was just sticks wicker. Yes so. I'd have been kicking at the wall and the inside. Yeah and try to fall out the back side and then jump off. I don't know that part didn't seem realistic. Come up with something. I think. So i don't think anyone ended up looking good in this so it has horrific elements. Yeah it's almost more like a old classic universal horror movie. You know if this were in black and white and but i think it's more of a i don't know like i said a commentary on religion. I think it's a piece that anti religion a lot of ways but it is kind of a musical to there are a lot of musical numbers in it. Is there a soundtrack. I don't know. I'm sure there is yeah. Paul giovanni and magnet it contains folk songs performed by characters in the film in various others. Does it have this happy song at the end.
